Coordinated Initiative for Optical Character Recognition Development (OCR) [Phase 3]

DFG资助计划OCR- d自2015年以来一直致力于光学字符识别（OCR）方法的进一步发展。该项目的总体目标是在技术和概念上准备VD（德语国家印刷的图书联合目录）的全文转换。为此目的，在第一个项目阶段确定了发展需要，然后在协调项目的指导下，在第二阶段通过八个模块项目来解决这些需要。在现在提议的第三个项目阶段，重点是稳定前一个模块项目阶段的结果，并在技术和组织上准备在大规模数字化中有效地使用OCR-D软件。因此，对执行项目的支助以及相应的技术发展和优化是本项目建议的中心内容。主要重点是确保对OCR-D软件的永久支持和进一步发展，并将实施工作的结果（为大规模数字化做好准备的稳定的OCR-D解决方案）传达给更广泛的未来用户，这些用户将在第三个项目阶段之后将其用于VD材料的全文数字化。

The DFG funding initiative OCR-D has been working on the further development of optical character recognition (OCR) methods since 2015. The overall goal of the project is to prepare the full text transformation of the VD (Union Catalogues of Books printed in German speaking countries) technically and conceptually. To this end, development needs were identified in the first project phase, which were then addressed in the second phase by eight module projects under the guidance of the coordination project. In the now proposed third project phase, the focus is on stabilizing the results of the previous module project phase and preparing the productive use of the OCR-D software in mass digitization technically and organizationally. Accordingly, the support of the implementation projects and the accompanying technical development and optimization are central aspects of the present project proposal. The main focus is to ensure the permanent support and further development of the OCR-D software and to communicate the results of the implementation work – stable OCR-D solutions ready for mass digitization – to a wider audience of future users who will use them for the full text digitization of the VD materials following this third project phase.
