Beveridge's Economic Thought : Combining on Social Security with on Unemployment

Our Research has ended in success with two respects:First, we organized an international seminar : Beveridge's Economic Thought and After, Hitotsubashi University, Tokyo, 31 January 2004. We invited Dr Alan Booth (University of Exeter), an authority in "Historical Keynes" project. As a keynote speaker, he read his paper entitled "Changing British Attitudes to the Welfare State : from Hobson to Thatcher". The second presenter was myself. "Beveridge on Economic General Staff". The attendance was more than 20 scholars and students.Second, we organized a young session seminar : Economic Thought on the Welfare State : a mixture of liberal and managed economies, Chuo Memorial Hall, Tokyo, 19 February 2005. We invited five contributors : specialists on social policy, Pigou, Knight, Myrdal, and legal philosophy.We properly positioned Beveridge's social and economic ideas in the history of economic thought, by focusing on his early, middle and later years. He combined a creation of the labour market and social security, which leaded that he established a threefold society : governmental duties (full employment and social insurance) and civic duties (voluntary action).
