本研究は、「学校教育におけるSDGsを達成するための児童生徒の社会情動的スキル・コンピテンシー（非認知的能力）の獲得を可視化する」こと、そして「検証の結果を学校教育・実践の改善に結びつけ、変容的行動の循環を促す」ことである。そのために、１．学校で実践されるSDGsの探究型学習、課題解決型学習(Problem-Solving-Learning)等によって育成される社会情動的スキルに関する計量的な検証を行う。２．社会情動的スキルと知識・技能、思考力・判断力・表現力等との関連を明らかにすることで、探究型学習、課題解決型学習を行うことの意義を明示する。３．これらの成果を比較検証しながらPDCAで教育的手法の改善を行うことで、国際行動計画「ESD for 2030」の求めている「変容的行動(Transformative Action) 」を促す。以上の３つを目的としている。１．については、国内外の複数の小中高等学校のSDGsの達成を学習目標とする探究型・課題解決型学習の実践の評価方法（ポートフォリオ、ルーブリック、パフォーマンス等）と評価データ、社会情動的スキルにかかわる評価項目のデータを収集した。２．については、「ESD for 2030」に取り組む一つの教育委員会の協力を得て、全国学力学習状況調査等を活用して、探究型学習(Problem-Solving-Learning)と学力、社会情動的スキルとの相関性を分析した。３．については、教育委員会主催の教員研修と教職大学院のカリキュラムにおいて、変容的行動を促す課題解決・探究型学習の授業実践についての考察を行った。
