現在、日本の林業は大きく変化しつつある。主な担い手は山林所有者から受託して林業作業を行なう林業事業体へシフトし、常雇い労働者が林業従事者の中心となりつつある。また、伐採の中心は間伐から主伐となる一方、再造林遅れが懸念されている。本研究では、農林業センサスと国勢調査のミクロデータを用い、こうした日本林業の変化の詳細を明らかにする。具体的には、農林業センサスから、(1)林業作業の委託はどこでどのように進んでいるのか、(2)再造林はどのような林地で遅れ、どのような事業体が主に担っているのかを明らかにする。また国勢調査からは、(3)林業従事者の世帯分析・個人分析を行い、農林業センサスでは捉えきれていない、林業作業者像の新たな側面が観察されることを明らかにする。さらに、市町村が一層森林管理への関与を求められる中、(4)農林業センサスと国勢調査を市町村単位で集計することで、林業が盛んな市町村が持つ特徴などを明らかにする。本年度は，この目的を目指し，まずは農林業センサス個票データの提供を農林水産省に申請，許可が下りて取得できた。取得に際し，先行研究を踏まえ，期間を2010年以後の計3回調査に限定し，そのデータを客体レベルで接続させた。また，林業経営体の区分も，公式のものは林業の分類としては必ずしも適さないので，公式の経営体区分と名称データをもとに林業経営体を再分類した。また，2020年に関しては林業従事者データが細かく取得されていたため，これを2020年の林業経営体データのみと接続させ，2020年データとして作成した。このようにして，農林業センサスに関して分析を行うための基盤となるデータセットの作成を完成させた。
