项目摘要

本研究は，ピクトグラムの標準化が取りこぼしたと想定される要素として，特に身体・動作・感情・コミュニケーション表現に着目し，多様性に応えるピクトグラムを提案することを目的とする．そのために，1930年代から40年代にかけての米国のピクトグラムに着目して調査を行っている．2022年度は1）歴史資料の収集・分析と，2）JIS案内用図記号，ならびにコミュニケーション支援用図記号を対象とした課題の抽出を主に実施する計画であった．１）は，伊原が担当し1942年に出版された『1000ピクトリアル・シンボル』に掲載されたピクトグラムを主な対象として，そのデザインに関する調査を行った．具体的な方法として，掲載されたピクトグラムが使用されたチャートやダイアグラム，イラストレーションなどの特定とピクトグラムのデザインの制作者を調査した．ピクトグラムの使用対象については，同時代の雑誌や書籍，新聞などを対象として調査を進めた．調査は2023年度も継続する予定としているが，22年度の調査では特にピクトグラムのカートゥーンへの展開と英語教本への利用の事例に着目した．これらの事例では，ピクトグラムのヴァリエーション展開に独自の傾向が見られることが分かり，引き続き分析を行っている．またピクトグラムのデザインの担当者については，多様な表現に統一性を与える造形的特徴の重要な要因でもあることから，複数の関連デザイン組織を渡り歩いてデザインを手がけていたKarl Koehlerに注目し，調査を継続している．２）については工藤が担当し，知的障害者の理解度に影響するピクトグラムのデザイン要素の抽出を目的とした実験を行った．その結果、場所を象徴するピクトグラムへの人物の付与，構成要素の具体的位置関係．効果線の付与，場所を表す要素，方向を表す矢の軸の長さの５つの要素を抽出した．この成果については、国際誌で発表を行った．
