本年度の研究によって得られた結果は次の2点に要約できる.1.DNA塩基配列データ用テキストデータベース管理システムの構築篠原らがすでに開発し、九州大学大型計算機センターで一般に公開している汎用のテキストデータベース管理システムSIGMAは、高速な文字列パターン照合アルゴリズムを駆使した効率的な情報システムである.本年度の研究においては、このSIGMAシステムを一般のワークステーション上で利用可能なように、検索機能を中心にUNIX上に移植した.また、塩基配列の文字種が極めて少ないことに着目し、情報圧縮の手法をSIGMAシステムに組み込むことにより、外部記憶装置の容量が比較的制限されるような場合にも大量のデータが処理しやすくなった.このことにより、さまざまな遺伝子情報データベースを、一般のワークステーション上のSIGMAシステムで操作することが可能になった。2.塩基配列用高速パターン照合アルゴリズムの開発さまざまな観点から塩基配列用の高速パターン照合アルゴリズムを開発した.とくに、情報圧縮の手法を利用したパターン照合の高速化や、連想記憶モデルによる全く新しいアルゴリズムの考察を行った。さらに、パターン言語の帰納学習に組み合わせ最適化の手法を取り入れることで、タンパク質データベースのような比較的文字種の多いデータベースに対しても、これらの手法が応用できることがいえた。
