本研究は,コミュニケーションにおいて顔から読みとられるさまざま情報がどのような機能を果たしているかを多面的に検討することを目的としている。本年度は,(1)意図的に表出した喜怒哀楽等の表情について,表出者自身の評価と受け手の認識の分析,(2)意図的な情動表出に影響する要因の抽出,(3)表情,性別等の顔から読みとられる情報が受け手の対人行動(発話,表出)に及ぼす影響の3点について検討を進めている。(1)と(2)については,幸福,驚き,怒り,悲しみ,嫌悪,軽蔑,恐れ,中性の表情を意図的に表出して,表出者自身がカメラで撮影する課題を,自分のみで撮影する,他者が見ている状況で撮影する,という2つの条件下で行った。表出者数は男女各20名である。評定者は,各表出者について16枚の写真を10種類の評定尺度で評定した(計24名)。尺度は,7種の感情語および好悪,話しかけやすさ,日常みかける頻度であった。評定値を男女別にまとめて分析したところ,一部を除いて意図した情動尺度の評定値がもっとも高いことが分かった。しかし表出の程度については,情動の種類によって違いがあり,幸福や驚き,怒りのように明確に他の情動と区別して表出される情動と,悲しみ,嫌悪,恐れ,軽蔑のように他の情動と混同されやすい情動があることが分かった。また,表出のしやすい情動が男女によって異なること,自分のみで表出する場合のほうが他者が見ている状況よりも表出がしやすいことも分かった。(3)では,表情や性別の異なる顔写真を対話相手とみたてて,質問,勧誘,謝罪,抗議という4種の状況で話かける課題を行い,発話開始までの反応時間を従属変数として,顔に含まれる情報がその個人に対する「話しかけやすさ」にどのように影響するかを検討した。現在までの結果から,話者は顔に含まれる情報を手がかりに発話行動を調整していることが示されている。
