手書き文字,文書が与える美しさのような感覚的印象,感性情報の評価実験を試しみた。ここでは,人間の受ける直感的感覚に近い高次レベルから,文字パターン処理に基づく低次レベル評価の構造を仮定して,感性評価実験を試みた。万葉集の一首を年代,経験の異なる人たちに筆記してもらい,約50サンプルの手書き文を用意した。書き手は学生,児童から日本語が少し書ける外国人等をも含んでいる。収集した文書のうち,美しい,ていねい,稚拙,乱暴など,代表的な印象特徴をもつものを選び,検討,分析した。手書き筆跡,文書から受ける美しさのような印象的審美感が,いかなる判断基準に基づくかを明確に知るのは困難である。多くの場合,最初は文書の行並びや紙面中の文字配置具合のような文書の大域的,全体的な印象で文書の審美的質を判断する。ついで,文字個々の字形や各点画の形の好し悪しなどの局所的,部分的な特徴で判断すると考えられる。本研究では,文書の審美的判断基準として,上記で述べた判断基準を利用する。つまり,文書中の行並びや文字配置のようなマクロな大域特徴と,個々の文字字形や各点画の形状などのミクロで部分的特徴に基づく感性情報の抽出を試しみた。文書の与える全体的印象を探る為に,濃度の周辺分布特性とフーリエ直交変換を使って文書の大域的な特徴抽出を試しみた。行並びの特性は濃度周辺分布に現れ,行の乱れ方を検出できる。フーリエ変換係数のヒストグラムの幅から,濃淡のはっきりしたきれいな文書や,ぼやけて鈍い文書などの相違が検出できた。個々の文字字形や各点画形状解析を通して,角張った直線的な文字,右上がりで癖のあるものなどの特徴抽出ができることを確かめた.直感的感覚に近い高次レベルの感覚的評価との関係などは今後の課題である。
