生態化学物質のうち植物由来の三次代謝産物およびファイトアレキシン、民族伝承薬物として瘧(おこり)を治療するのに用いられている生薬エキスを検体として選別し、熱帯熱マラリア原虫増殖阻害活性およびマウス乳癌由来FM3A細胞の薬剤毒性を検定(岡山大 綿矢教授)することにより抗マラリア剤としての先導化合物を探索した。1合成カルコン類の抗マラリア活性 合成カルコン27検体、含硫黄カゴ型化合物11検体の検定結果、2,4'-dihydroxychalconeに10-6オーダー(選択係数12)で活性が認められたが、類縁化合物との活性相関は認められなかった。2Pityrogramma属(ウラボシ科)およびMallotus属(トウダイグサ科)の三次代謝産物の抗マラリア活性 Pityrogramma属植物の複合フラボノイド35検体およびMallotus属のフロログルシノール型カルコン6検体の検定結果、後者カルコンに10-7オーダーの活性が認められたが同程度の薬剤毒性を示した。3ファイトアレキシンおよび民族伝承薬物の抗マラリア活性 ファイトアレキシンとして43検体および民族伝承薬物として主に中米で用いられている生薬エキス120検体について目下検定の途中である。
