In this work, we have investigated metal island films composed of metal nanoclusters as multiwavelength and multipolarization optical data storage media. The metal island films exhibit anomalous resonance-type absorption in the visible and near-infrared regions. At the resonance wavelength, metal island films not only have large absorption but also high reflectance. Because optical characteristics of metal island films are altered considerably by heating in the wavelength region near the resonance wavelength, the metal island films can be used as heat-mode write-once optical data storage media. In this work, we simulated the spectral optical change of the multilayer of venous silver island layers and dielectric layers. We successfully showed that the multiwavelength optical data storage media with 4 recording layers in the wavelength region of 500 - 900 nm could be realized. In addition, we also showed that the multiwavelength optical data storage media with 3 recording layers in the wavelength region of 350 - 450 nm could be realized by using prolate silver nanoclusters. For the multipolarization optical data storage media, we theoretically showed that the multilayers using oblique metal island films composed of prolate metal particles inclined to one side could be used as the recording media.
