Currently, the "prefabricated flap" has been developed in the field of tissue reconstruction. In this method, a vascularized tissue is implanted as a "vascular carrier" prior to the flap elevation. A few months later, a newly created flap can be elevated with the blood supply via the vascular carrier. This method is based on the neo-vascularization between the induced vascular carrier and the overlying tissue. However, neovascularization and adhesion of the vascular carrier to the surrounding tissue may inherently result in difficulty of the flap elevation. We developed a prefabricated flap using jejunal seromuscular flap as a vascular carrier. The jejunal seromuscular flap contains a submucosal layer for the neovascularization, but also having a serosa which can prevent adhesion and neovascularization. We confirmed the utility of the prefabricated flap based on the jejunal seromuscular flap as a vascular carrier.
