The Study on Muslims' Social Network and their Adaptation in Kanto Metropolitan Area

2005年11月至2006年6月，我们对居住在关东都会区的外籍穆斯林进行了调查。我们获得了203个有效样本进行分析，并在2006年8月发布了一份初步研究报告，使用的样本数据不包括学生数据。2006年10月，在日本社会学学会举办的年度研究会议上，我们做了两个演讲：“关东地区穆斯林调查”和“生活在日本的穆斯林类型”。到目前为止，这样的研究报告非常罕见，所以研究人员的兴趣相当大，他们中的许多人参与了关于这些主题的讨论，我们收到了许多有用的评论，为我们的调查进一步研究提供了有用的意见。此外，我们还在穆斯林人口研究会议、日本多元文化关系学会、日本中东研究学会年会上做了介绍。除了穆斯林调查外，我们还在日本东部进行了清真寺(伊斯兰教寺庙)调查，并于2006年12月出版了《清真寺调查详细记录》。大约在2006年底，我们刚刚在马来西亚启动了“ALEPS(Look-East Policy Students)回流穆斯林学生调查”，因为我们打算确认在日本的穆斯林和海外穆斯林之间的国际网络。然而，由于本次调查准备工作的延误，调查于2007年2月开始。作为穆斯林调查的结果，我们证实了日本穆斯林的生活方式因生活满意度和对日本社会适应程度的不同而不同。从长远来看，更多的穆斯林将永久居住在日本，因此，日本穆斯林与日本人之间的跨文化和跨社会交流过程将是未来日本社区问题的重大议程。

From Nov.2005 to Jun.2006, we conducted the survey for Foreign Muslims living in Kanto metropolitan area. We got 203 valid sample for our analysis, then we published a preliminary research report in Aug. 2006 using sample data except students' data. In Oct. 2006, on the occasion of annual research meeting held by the Japanese Sociological Society, we made 2 presentation as follows; " Muslim survey in Kanto metropolitan area" and " Types of Muslims living in Japan". To date, the research presentation like these has been very rare, so the researchers' interest are fairly great and many of them participated in the discussion on these themes and we received many useful comments for further study of our survey. In addition to this presentation, we made presentations at the Research meeting on Muslim population, the Japan Society for Multicultural relations, and the annual research meeting of the Japan Society for the Middle East Studies.Besides the Muslims survey, we conducted Mosque (Islamic temple) survey in East Japan, and published " Detailed Records of Mosque survey" in Dec.2006. Around the end of 2006, we have just started "Survey on Returning Muslim students of ALEPS ( Association for Look-East Policy students)" in Malaysia, because we have intended to confirm international networks between Muslims in Japan and Muslims in overseas. However, due to delay of preparation for this survey, the survey was started in Feb. 2007. So, a preliminary result will be reported in the summer of 2007.As the result of Muslim survey, we confirmed that the life style of Muslims in Japan are different according to the degree of life satisfaction and adaptation to Japanese society. In the long run, more Muslims will reside permanently in Japan, so the process of intercultural and inter-social communication between Muslims in Japan and Japanese will be great agenda for community problem in future Japan.
