[1] Establishment of noninvasive identification of language localization and comparison with invasive methods1) Noninvasive determination of language localization using synthetic aperture magnetometryWe applied a voluntary speech task in addition to a silent reading task. Difference of oscillatory changes by different tasks were investigated. Comparison between kana reading and kanji reading indicated that kanji reading showed stronger desynchronization in the temporooccipital base.than kana reading (Hirata, Risho Noha, 2006). Emotional connotation in words was investigated. Emotional words indicated more prominent desynchronization in the prefrontal cortex and cingulate cortex. Lateralization of the prefrontal desynchronization was reversal between negative and positive emotional words. In addition, Emotional words indicated increased desynchronization in the inferior frontal cortex (Hirata, Neurolmage, 2007).2) Comparison with chronic subdural electrodes and intraoperative cortical stimulation during awake surgeryValidation study indicated that language localization was well detectable with synthetic aperture magnetometry and the present silent reading task (Hirata, Biomag 2006 and ICCN 2006).[2] Spatiotemporal analyses of local cerebral oscillatory changes induced by language activitiesGroup analyses of MEG was introduced to establish the normal standard of oscillatory changes induced by silent reading task ( in preparation).[3] Evaluation of language function using transcranial magnetic stimulationEvaluation will be performed after the approval by the hospital ethical committee[4] Restoration of language function using brain computer interfaceSpatiotemporal distribution of the categorized words is being investigated. Feasibility of the restoration of language function was assessed by discrimination analyses using support vector machine
