「アジアNICs諸国比較研究II」グループは、前年度に引き続き研究対象領域の香港、シンガポールに関する文献資料、データの収集を鋭意すすめる一方、分担者たちは、海外研究活動の機会を利用して、現地の研究者と交流を行い、実態把握に鋭意つとめた。その結果をもとに、平成元年5月13日〜14日京都において、同9月15日〜17日の大磯研究会議のさい、さらに12月9日〜10日名古屋において研究グループ会議を開き、対論をくりひろげた。対象地域である香港、シンガポールが中国人の社会で、その経済発展において中国の儒教的文化的価値観の影響下にあることは認められたが、儒教イデオロギーと工業化との関連については各研究者の認識において多様性がみられた。しかし、本研究プロジェクトが最終年になるので、それぞれの立場に立った報告書をまとめる方向で、作業をすすめた。それらの報告書テーマは、「香港の発展と華人社会の儒教的伝統」(江頭)「儒教精神と勤労意欲:香港企業のケース「実態調査をもとに」(二瓶,大津)「シンガポール工業化の政策的構造的要因」(広野)「シンガポールにおける教育と国民統合」(田中)「シンガポール華人企業の特質」(吉原)である。これら報告書は、必ずしも完成したものではなく、事後の海外研究旅行を通じて補強したり、グループ・メンバーの討論を続けて完成していく必要があることを、最後に指摘しておきたい。
