项目摘要

1.日本列島・アジア大陸・アメリカ大陸について、最終氷期から後氷期にかけての古地理・古気候・古生態に関する情報を収集し、先史モンゴロイド集団の拡散地域の自然環境の変遷に関する「古環境データベース」を作成するための基礎資料を収集した。とくに、最終氷期最盛期(約1.8万年前)の世界の氷河分布図を編集した。2.日本列島の北部地域(北海道と東北地方)において野外調査をおこなった。とくに北海道の大雪山では永久凍土のボーリング調査により深さ6mのコアサンプルを採取し、また電気探査により永久凍土の厚さを15mと推定した。この結果、北海道大雪山の標高1500m以上の地域は現在でも永久凍土の不連続帯であることがわかった。3.東北地方と北海道における花粉分析結果および大型植物化石群集の解析によれば、最終氷期の最寒冷期の北海道はグイマツ・ハイマツ・草原などによって特徴づけられた針葉樹林の卓越するタイガに相当する植生帯であったと推定される。4.日本とアジア大陸東部の動物相の関係について再検討した結果、中期更新世の後半以降、大陸から日本への動物群の移入は従来の見解よりもはるかに限定されたものであり、中期更新世から完新世にかけては後期更新世末の北方からの大型有蹄類の侵入を除いて、ほとんど動物群の移入がなかったと考えられる。したがってこの時期には、本州・四国・九州地域は大陸からほとんど孤立していたと見てよい。

1. Collection of information related to palaeogeography, palaeochronology and palaeoecology of the Japanese archipelago, the mainland of Japan, the final period, and the later period. The results of re-examination of faunal relationships in the eastern part of the mainland of Japan, the views on migration of faunas from the late Pleistocene to the late Pleistocene and from the mainland to Japan, the restrictions on invasion of large ungulates from the late Pleistocene to the late Pleistocene, and the migration of faunas from the late Pleistocene to the north. During this period, Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu regions were isolated from each other.
