项目摘要

本研究計画は,重点領域「地球中心核」の総括班活動を目的としている.まず,これまでの研究のレビュ-と今後の研究方針の展望を主眼としたシンポジウムを企画した.本領域が広く固体地球科学をカバ-していることから,4月に共立女子大学で開かれた地球惑星科学関連学会合同大会の共通セッションとすることができた.講演者の多くは本領域研究における計画研究メンバ-,及び公募研究申請者であった.本シンポジウムにおいて多くの成果が発表され,各研究者はさらなる研究に着手し始めたものと思われる.来年度の合同大会(4月に京都大学で開催予定)においても,同様の共通セッションを本総括班が中心となって企画している.本年度は総括班会議を3度開き,領域全体の活動を常に把握するとともに,各計画班の研究及び公募研究を推進してきた.各班で企画している研究会等に総括班員はできる限り出席することにし,個々の問題を常に検討することにより,研究推進機構としての機能をはたしてきた.情報誌としてのニュ-スレタ-は5号から7号まで3回発行した.総括班会議の内容,計画班研究会の紹介,最新の研究成果の紹介等充実した内容となっており,本重点領域関連研究者に広く行きわたっている.また,12月には全体集会をシンポジウム形式で行い,今年度の研究成果が披露された.その内容は,報告書としてまとめ,広く研究者に配布されることになっている.最後に,国際対応について触れておきたい.8月にウィ-ンで開かれたIUGG(国際測地学地球物理学連合)には本総括班より2名を派遣し,SEDI(Study of the Earth's Deep Interior)関連のシンポジウムで成果を発表してもらった.その内容はニュ-スレタ-に紹介してある.来年度の7月には,水沢において第3回のSEDIシンポジウムが開かれることになっているが,このシンポジウムの企画にも本総括班が深く関わっている.
