We are applying for a superconducting solenoid magnet. The maximum field should be at least 15 T. The magnet should also be cryogen-free, so that the sustainability of the operation is guaranteed and the operating costs remain limited. Particularly noteworthy of the magnet applied for is the relatively large bore of the variable temperature insert, which allows existing measurement methods to be optimized and expanded, as well as to develop and use new measurement methods for the first time. The focus of the latter will be on combined measurement methods in which two independent physical measurements are combined or physical properties are measured under external influences. Among other things, we will develop the following new measurement methods: Far-infrared measurements at low temperatures and in high magnetic fields. With this method we will investigate the spin-phonon coupling in single-molecule magnets and molecular quantum bits in detail. Furthermore, we will carry out electrical transport measurements under the influence of terahertz radiation. With the help of this method we will on the one hand investigate the quantum properties of charge carriers in 2D materials and on the other hand investigate the charge transport mechanism in organic semiconductors using electrically detected magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Finally, the large bore will also allow the THz electron spin resonance spectroscopy (THz-ESR) method that we have already extensively used to be expanded with a sample changer, which will considerably shorten the necessary measurement time.
