项目摘要

本研究では,いわば光学製品の基礎ともいうべき双眼鏡について,わが国での国産化の背景や,その後の技術の発展,産業としての変遷を以下の方法によって調査研究し明らかにすることが目的である。文献や(株)ニコンなどの主なメーカーに保管されている設計図,製品のカタログなどの文字資料の調査・収集。また,実際に設計に携わった人たちへの聞き取り調査。企業・コレクターなどにより収集保管されている製品の現物資料についてその構造を実地に調査する。当該領域「日本の技術革新」において,光学産業技術の基礎となる双眼鏡について一つの類型を示す。研究最終年度となること年度は,引き続き文献や製品カタログなとの文字資料の収集,古い雑誌記事資料の収集を行った。また,現物資料についても収集し,その中では戦前日本光学株式会社に続いて第二の国策光学会社となった,東京瓦斯電氣工業株式會社製のプリズム双眼鏡を入手し,その構造を調査・計測して同時期の日本光学製・外国製双眼鏡と比較検討し論文として発表した。これにより,戦前期の双眼鏡技術とその伝播についてほぼ完全な情報をえた。これらの文献・文字・実物等資料の収集と調査研究を進めて,双眼鏡についての技術革新の時系列的な整理を行い,国産化の開始から戦前期を経て現在にいたるまでの技術獲得・導入・伝播の過程についての分析を終えた。また,技術革新とその伝播の見地から,戦後の双眼鏡産業の変化についての考察をおこなった。これまでに得られた文献情報・文字資料また現物資料について,そのデータベースを作成し,研究成果を取りまとめた。
