本研究の目的は、インフォームド・コンセント（以下IC）に関わる看護師を対象とした教育プログラム開発に向けて、IC教育の現状と課題を明らかにすることである。全国の病院600施設（国公立病院やがん診療拠点病院）の看護部長対象に無記名自記式質問紙調査を行った。204施設（回収率34.0％）を分析対象とし、病院の種類は国公立70.6%、その他（法人等）29.4%であり、がん拠点病院は全体の54.4%であった。看護師の実践が不十分と答えたのは69.1%、看護師の教育が不十分と答えたのは78.9%と多かった。新人対象のIC教育を実施しているのは13.2%、新人以外対象のIC教育を実施しているのは17.2%と少ないことが明らかになった。最も実施されている教育内容は、新人対象および新人以外対象ともに「ICに関わる看護師の役割」であった。一方、あまり実施されていない教育内容は「ICの歴史」や「ICに関する記録」であり、ICの基礎的内容に関する教育の不十分さが考えられた。また、看護師の教育が不十分と答えた自由記述から、組織的なIC教育の課題を質的記述的に分析した結果、「ICの教育プログラムがない」「他の教育の一部」「現場や各部署任せ」「IC教育の内容や方法が不十分」「適切な指導者の不足」等があった。本研究の結果、IC教育は十分に実施されていないことや、実施されていても各部署に任せていたり他の教育の一部であったりと、組織的、系統的ではないことが考えられた。これらの課題を踏まえて、具体的な教育内容や教育方法を提示するICに特化した教育プログラムの必要性が示唆された。
