Study on geomorphology and structure of coral reefs as a disaster protection feature in coastal areas

在本次研究项目中，我们从地貌学和沉积学的角度对生物礁的抗浪结构有了具体而详细的了解。首先，我们尝试利用本研究项目引进的高分辨率多波束测深声纳观测礁外斜坡的三维地形。这是琉球群岛首次对复杂的外礁斜坡地形进行3D可视化。我们还分析了我们在琉球群岛和马尔代夫钻探的钻芯。海底胶结物的发育主要分布在礁上缘，并对形成刚性礁构造起到了重要作用。

In this research program, we observed a concrete and detailed knowledge on wave-resistant structure of reefs from geomorphology and sedimentology. The firstly, we attempts to observe three-dimensional topography of outer reef slope such as spurs and grooves using high-resolution multibeam bathymetric sonar which was introduced by this research grant. This is the first 3D visualization of complex outer reef slope topography in the Ryukyu Islands. We also analyze the drilling cores that we drilled in the Ryukyu Islands and Maldives. The development of submarine cement is distributed significantly at the upper reef edges and contributed to form the rigid reef structure.
