本研究の目的は、訪問看護師が有する療養生活の場にある「空気を読む」能力の構成概念を明らかにし、訪問看護師の「空気を読む」能力を構造化することである。2年計画で行う初年度にあたる平成26年度は（1）「訪問看護師の能力・接遇・コミュニケーション技術」「社会的知能」「空気・空気を読む」に関連する国内の文献検討ならびに、「atmosphere：雰囲気」に関連する海外の文献検討、および（2）平成25年度（挑戦的萌芽研究）において実施した、療養生活の場で空気を感じた経験を持つ訪問看護師を対象としたグループインタビューのデータの分析結果を統合し、「訪問看護師が有する療養生活の場にある空気を読む能力」の構成内容を整理した。さらに（3）整理した空気を読む能力の構成内容について、学会発表での意見交換ならびに、海外の研究者1名、訪問看護に関する実践・教育・研究経験があり、看護学の博士号を有する日本の研究者2名と意見交換を行った。以上の取組みから、訪問看護師が療養生活の場において空気を感じる状況と、訪問看護師にとって空気を読む能力は必須の能力であることの合意が得られた。しかし、空気を読む能力の構成内容や表現方法については、療養生活の場にある空気を読むことがどのような訪問看護実践に活かされているのかという視点からの検討が必要であることが指摘された。さらに、海外の研究者にとって「空気」という言葉自体は馴染みがなく、理解しがたいものであるが、「空気を読む」ことの意味は、エキスパートの段階にある看護師が行う複雑な状況に適応するためのアドバンスなスキル、知識、方法に関連する内容として理解されることがわかった。これらをふまえ、さらに訪問看護師が有する空気を読む能力の構成内容、表現方法を洗練させ、空気を読む能力を構造化する必要がある。
