一連のファインプロセス、熱履歴処理、プローブ顕微手法等によって原子レベルにて加工、調整された基板表面の局所構造を有機分子の自己組織化現象を制御する「原子テンプレート」として利用しつつ、従来行われてきた化学合成手法によって有機分子超構造の自立形成を意図的に制御する「プログラム自己組織化」の自由度を高めた。これにより、これまでの手法では実現困難な有機分子超構造の作成手法に道を開いた。
