Synthetic inquiry and research in religious Taoism, concerning its existing state and place in Chinese culture.

According to Monbusho International Scientific Research Program, we have investigated existing state of Taoism in Mainland China for two years. Our Research Party is composed of seven members, that is, five Japanese and two Chinese.In 1987, Chief of the party performed preliminary Research in following Provinces and Cities - Shandong, Hangzhou, Jiangxi, Hubei, Sichuan and Shanxi.In 1988, our party performed Field Research in Beijing, Shanxi, Sichuan and Shanghai. Main points of Research are as follows: activity of each Taoist Association, number and Sects of Taoists, economy of Taoist Temples, Fetes of Gods and Fairies, form of daily devotions and so on.In co-operation with Taoists on the spot, we gained various valuable results. In 1990, we published two volumes of Report.
