During the Late Pleistocene, the highest regions of the low mountain ranges of Central Europe were temporarily covered by smaller ice caps and glaciers. The glaciation of the southern Black Forest was mainly concentrated on the highest elevation of the Black Forest (Feldberg: 1493 m), and the surrounding region. According to previous age determinations, the late Pleistocene glaciation maxima in most of the low mountain ranges fall into marine isotope stage 2 (30-15 ka), but little is known about the timing of deglaciation. The aim of the project is a comprehensive reconstruction of the chronology of the last deglaciation of the southern Black Forest. This should enable conclusions to be drawn about the atmospheric circulation over Central Europe during the late Pleistocene.
