本研究の目的は申請時においては、明治中期から大正期に出版された婦人雑誌、家政書の収集、整理を通して「家事労働」というカテゴリーおよび「家事」と愛情を結合させるイデオロギーの生成過程などを、「家事」という言葉に対する意味付与に注目して明かにすることにおかれていた。本年度は、研究テーマに関連する先行研究の収集および整理、分析対象とする資料の選定を行った。日本の「近代家族」における家族、家事、性別役割分業等の実態を、婦人雑誌、総合雑誌など時系列的に検討可能な資料を用いて明かにした先行研究を検討した。そこで明らかになったことは、婦人雑誌、総合雑誌等を資料とした研究の焦点はもっぱら都市新中間層に当たっており、農村部の社会変容と家族および生活変動との関連を明かにした研究は手薄であるということである。そこで本年度の研究では、都市部新中間層に焦点を当てるという当初の計画を変更し、都市労働力の供給源である農村部において「近代家族」的な家族・生活価値観がいかに受容されたかを明らかにする資料選定をすることとした。主要資料として選定したのは雑誌「家の光」復刻版ある。当誌は産業組合中央会が1925年に創刊した家庭雑誌である。本年度は1996年-97年に出版された復刻版第I期および第II期配本分(1925年-1935年分)を資料として購入した。この資料を用いて、家族、家事、生活をめぐる「正統文化」が形成される過程を、農家の階層差および都市への労働力供給に注目して分析するのが今後の課題である。
