本研究は延享４年の譜代大名内藤家の岩城から延岡への転封を素材として、内藤藩がこの転封にどのように対応したのか、転封後の藩政の展開、新領地への定着過程を検討するものである。２０２２年度は、内藤家の転封が東国から九州への転封で、領地をめぐる環境が大きく変わったこと、領地が江戸から遠くなったことに注目し、この影響を検討するための作業を進めた。まず、前年までに作成していた寛政４年の大坂屋敷関係の書状記録のデータベースをもとに、領外の拠点と国元との結びつきや、藩士の移動管理体制について分析を行った。また、これまでに転封を命じられてから延岡城の受け取りまでの期間については、内藤家文書に含まれる藩の日記をデータベース化していたが、岩城時代と延岡時代の比較や変化を分析するための素材としては十分でなかったため、内藤家文書について転封前後の藩の日記類を追加調査した。日記以外の史料についても、転封前後の変化を窺わせる引き継ぎ記録、藩士の処遇や郷士の処遇に関する記録、祭礼関係の記録を調査し、適宜撮影を行った。部署によっては日記類が伝わっていない年次もあるので、複数部署の日記を対象とすることで年次の欠けを補いつつ、国元・江戸の御用部屋、国元書方の日記を対象にして、転封前の延享３年と延享４年の城受け取り後から寛延２年までの日記類の内容をデータベース化し、転封前後の藩の動きを把握できるようにした。これらの素材をもとに、転封で内藤家にもたらされた変化の全体像を明治大学博物館の展示で紹介した。この他、転封を起点にして内藤家が延岡藩近隣の大名とどのように関係を構築し、それを維持するのかについても検討し、前年度までに明らかになっていた大坂屋敷に送付される藩外宛の書状が、近隣大名との交際にかかわる書状であることや大坂屋敷とのかかわりについて分析を行った。
