本研究は、月経のある健康な若年女性の血糖について、①月経後（卵胞期）と月経前（黄体期）で血糖の日内変動に変化があるのか。②月経前症候群（PMS）症状のあるものでは「機能性低血糖症」と呼ぶべき病態が存在するのか。③黄体期には、その病態は悪化しているのか。PMS症状の出現と一致しているか。を明らかにすることを目的としており、PMSと血糖変動に関連があることがわかれば、若年女性のPMS症状発症予防のための食生活のプログラム開発につながり、プレコンセプションケアとして女性の健康維持に役立つばかりでなく、アブセンティーイズム・プレゼンティーイズムなどの損失を改善することで女性の社会参加を促進させ、医療費の削減にもつながると考えている。そのために、まず「月経前症候群（PMS）症状と血糖変動の関連についての研究」と題して、月経前から月経後にかけて２週間の血糖変動と症状を観察する研究の、研究計画書、説明文書、同意書、アンケート用紙などを学内倫理審査委員会に提出し、承認をうけた。また血糖の測定機器等についても購入を行い、メーカーから指導を受け、準備は整えた。医療系大学の実習もある学生たちを対象とするため、コロナ禍が思ったより長びいていたことより、対面で説明することが憚られ、まだ実際の研究への着手はできていない。そのため、PMSおよび機能性低血糖症について文献検討を行い、結果の解釈についての基準であったり、記録の方法について、研究分担者と協議を重ねて、計画のブラッシュアップを行った。
