室内楽のなかでも、弦楽四重奏は「至高の」ジャンルとみなされる。美的序列の高まりは18世紀半ば以後、創作者と受容者の相互作用のうちにもたらされた。本研究ではその過程において、18世紀半ば以前の対位法が果たした役割を検証する。いわゆる「古典派」の美的規範の確立に対位法の伝統がどのようにかかわったかを明らかにする。筆者は前研究で18世紀半ば以前の対位法、なかでも、J. S. バッハ（1685～1750）の対位法を主たる対象とした。その際、ディシプリンとしての現代の作曲教程の語彙に依らず、当時の対位法の捉えかたの理解につとめようと、当時の理論的手稿や演奏実践をも扱った。本研究においても、「古典派」の三大巨匠とされるJ. ハイドン（1732～1809）、W. A. モーツァルト（1756～1791）、L. v. ベートーヴェン（1770～1827）の弦楽四重奏曲のみならず、彼らが習得した対位法、当時の音楽理論書や言説をも分析対象とする。第一年度にはまず、弦楽四重奏とL. v. ベートーヴェンの研究史や研究動向の把握につとめた。そのうえで、L. v. ベートーヴェンの弦楽四重奏曲を、筆者が前研究でもちいた手法を応用しながら対位法的観点より分析し、J. S. バッハの対位法との相違点にも注意を払うことで考察を深めた。また、L. v. ベートーヴェンの、師J. G. アルブレヒツベルガー（1736～1809）のもとでの対位法のレッスンのノートや習作を参照し、L. v. ベートーヴェンの弦楽四重奏曲の創作への作用についても探究した。
