The polymer-modified electrodes were developed and applied to the electrochromic display.A storage type electrochromic display was fabricated by a Poly-Co-quarternized 3,4-tetrapyridinoporphyrazine(Poly-Co-QTPP)film which was modified on an In-Sn oxide(ITO)glass by electrochemical reduction. A violet-coloured film was obtained when the film electrode was subjected to a negative potential of -1.4 V vs. a saturated caromel electrode(SCE) in a 1.0M KCl aqueous solution. The colour of the film reverted to green at a positive potential of +1.8 V vs. SCE. As a result of the polymeric structure, the Poly-Co-QTPP film demonstrated excellent durability in repeated operation compared with a monomeric film. Furthermore, the reduced state of the film was stored for a long period of more than three months without electric power.
