社会経済の急激な進展、雇用されて働く母親の増加等に伴い、家庭の教育機能の変化、親の役割の再検討、母親の就労が子どもに及ぼす影響などの研究課題が提起され、緊急な対応が迫られている。本研究では、東京都在住の10〜15歳(昭和61年1月1日現在)の子ども1500名とその父母を対象に調査員による個別面接聴取法により質問紙調査を行った。昭和60年5〜7月に週1回のペースで精力的に調査票作成のための会合を開き、9月中旬までに調査票のプリテストを終了して、10月に調査票を印刷した。実査は昭和60年11月6日〜12月20日及び1月10日〜27日の2期にわたった。その1期目の後半と2期目の大部分には父親と面接するための可能な限りの努力が、重ねられた。調査内容は(1)家族の生活実態と意識、(2)地域の次世代育成力活用の実態と意識、(3)子育て・子育ちの実態と意識を含み、母親が就労する家庭と専業主婦の家庭を比較できるよう構成されている。昭和61年3月22日現在、子ども票、母親票、父親票の総体に関する単純集計が出て、研究分担者が一堂に会し、単純集計の共同の読みを行った。4月以降クロス集計を行いながらデータの解釈をめぐる会合を重ねる予定である。なお、大量調査を補足するための事例調査も併行して進行しており、昭和61年10月初旬に開かれる国立婦人教育会館主催の第2回家庭教育国際セミナーにおいて本研究の成果を報告し、国際的な視野の中で本研究を位置づけて行きたいと考えている。本研究は社会学心理学・精神医学・労働経済学・家政学・文化人類学の6領域にまたがる学際的チームによる総合研究であるが、昭和59年以来、国立婦人教育会館の国内・国際家庭教育セミナーの準備や本番での交流の積み重ねの上に、本研究を通じて、研究分担者間に有機的連帯が強まり、相互に学び合いつつ、作業が楽しく進捗しつつある。
