冷泉家時雨亭文庫に所蔵されている、国宝指定藤原定家自筆『嘉禄本古今和歌集』は、藤原為家が子息の為相に相伝するため、嘉禎三年書写の奥書を切って、あたかも嘉禄本のようにみせたものであることを検証した。それは為家が為相に勅撰撰者を出す家になれよ、との言外の遺言であった。この遺言によって、冷泉家は成立した。南北朝時代、和歌の家柄・二条家の断絶により、典籍は冷泉家に継承され、現在に襲蔵されている。この二条家の典籍中に、鎌倉時代書写で、祖本でもある重要文化財指定『豊後国風土記』もこのとき冷泉家に入った。応仁の乱で、ほとんど平安京は焼亡してしまい、多数の古代典籍は焼失した。冷泉家も邸宅は全焼したが、典籍は疎開できた。歌書類で焼失をまぬがれた唯一の家柄である。歌の家柄で三条西家などは焼いてしまった。さらに、安土・桃山時代に細川幽斎・梵舜・徳川家康によっても、冷泉家の『豊後国風土記』を直接書写したことにより、現在の流布の始まりとなった。また、宮内庁書陵部所蔵で禁裏本と称される江戸時代書写で歌書の孤本は、江戸時代初期に冷泉家の典籍を書写したものであることを検証した。また、研究調査の過程で、京都大学附属図書館に架蔵されている特殊文庫の平松家文書中に、今まで江戸時代の写本しか知られていなかった『範国記』『知信記』各1巻を見い出し、それが平安時代の古写本で、祖本にあたるものであることを証明した。これは近衛家に伝来したものであって、江戸時代前期に平松家に分与されたものであった。この発見により、両巻は昭和61年3月に重要文化財に指定された。特に古代典籍は応仁の乱でほとんど焼失したが、徳川家康・後陽成天皇等により、江戸時代初期に書写・出版したものが、現在の流布の契機になったことを検証した。
