1 Akiko Yosano's thought on physical education is based upon humanitarian educational thought which is supported by the democratic current in the Taishoh period.Her thought tended towards a liberal approach to physical education and had some aspects that questioned the competitive idea to win.2 (1)Her critique of the military drill proposed by a special meeting on physical education shows her ideas of human dignity and women's recovery of rights as physical beings.(2)Shi insists that women can attain freedom and human rights through mental and financial independence.(3)With such ideas,she refused to accept the authorities' interference in the methods of physical education,as was the case at the Bunka Gakuin 3 Nevertheless,Akiko,who was a faithful observer of the Imperial Rescript on Education, unconsciously admitted the necessity for trained military as a safeguard for the Emperor, and this is connected with her tolerating the aggressive action during World War II.This was the blind spot of her liberalistic thinking.
