1.幕末期の宇和島藩主伊達宗城(だて・むねなり)の日記,受信発信書簡,各種のメモ類の悉皆的調査と、主として嘉永・安政期の主要なものをマイクロフィルムによっ収集した。2.伊達宗城の公私にわたる伝記史料として、未刊のまゝにある「藍山(らんざん)公記」の内容検討と、校訂、そして内容細目の作成をすゝめ、将来の公刊の準備の一助とした。3.史料調査の対象は、宇和島伊達家に最大重点を置き、東大史料編さん所,国立史料館,国会図書館憲政資料室,東北大学図書館等では、補足的な史料調査ならびに、各機関による複製資料を調査した。4.史料の分析は、伊達宗城と徳川斉昭、及び松平慶永の2人の有力人物との関係に重点を置き、往復書簡の翻字,編年の作成等をすゝめた。5.これまで重点を置いて来た宗城と徳川斉昭との関係からは、宗城の保守的側面から開明性への転換が必ずしも明確にならなかったが、宗城と松平春岳(慶永)との関係を詳細にたどることによって、宗城のいわゆる「開明的」性格は、春岳の与えた影響が大きいことが次第に判って来た。6.今後は、宗城と春岳の関係を中心に、解明して行きたいと考えている。7.さらには、次の史料集の編集公刊の準備をすゝめたい(1)「藍山公記」(宇和島伊達家編集)240冊の公刊(2)宗城と春岳の往復書簡集の編集
