项目摘要

地方志・文集・公牘類から、江南デルタ郷村の土俗信仰に関する記事を博捜し、カード化し、分類して行く作業を、ほゞ予定の如く進めることができた。"総管信仰"とも称すべき土俗信仰が、村々の農民の共同の信仰として存在していること、その渕源は元末に求められること、その説話(御利益)の内容から推してこの信仰は元明期に南方税糧の北方への漕運(海運)を担当した江南富人層に社会基盤を有することなど、既に推定しつゝあった論説を、この作業によって大きく充実・補足することができた。さらに本年のこの研究で獲得された知見のうち、特筆大書すべきは、明末清初の経済・社会的変動(商業化,マーケットタウンの蔟生,不在城居地主の優勢、手工業で貨幣を入手し食米は購入する小農民の出現等々)に直接に照応する、説話内容の変質を発見したことである。既に明清交代期における信仰の社会組織の変遷、つまり小農民の構成する共同体的結合である「村」「村社」とマーケットタウン(鎮)との間に上下の統属関係が行政とは全く無関係に成立したのに対応して、村の「社神」が特定の鎮の廟に香・銭を上納する慣習が形成され、県衙への税粮上納に比定する"解銭粮"と呼ばれていることは、ある程度明らかにし、本年の研究でもこれを補足した。しかし神々の説話の変化の有無は今まで皆目確認されなかったのに対し、本年の研究の中で、かつては漕運(及びそれに伴う交易)の保護神たりし「総管」などの神々が、飢饉に際して運送中の官米軍粮を放出し自らは毒を負うて自殺する漕運の小吏に変化したことが確認されたのである。まさしく、外地(湖広・江西など)より移入される米の購入に依る小農民の神に代っている。明末清初の社会経済構造の変動にクリアに照応する神々・信仰の変質を本年の研究で解明できたのである。
