项目摘要

佛教王国西蔵に佛教が公的に伝来したのは七世紀半ばであるが、西蔵にはボン教という固有の民族宗教が既に存在していた。これは西蔵西南地方出身のシェンラブミーボが紀元前五世紀末に北西印度で、自然神崇拝とヴィシュヌ派の婆羅門教学とを結び付けて始めた宗教で、佛教伝来までは西蔵での唯一の宗教であった。吐蕃時代に入り、佛教の伝来以後二百年に亘って、政権争いと結びついて佛教とボン教の間に宗教争いを繰り返して来た。この間にボン教自体も佛教に対抗するために教義を整え、教学や組織を整理し、学派が成立してくる。それらを大別すれば戒律を中心とするVinaya学派と儀軌を中心とするVijray【a!~】na学派となった。八世紀の吐蕃王チソンデツェンの佛教国教化によりボン教は弾圧を受けたが、幸いに生き延びた。しかし吐蕃最後の王ダルマの宗教弾圧により佛教と共に大弾圧を受け、ヴィナヤ学派は潰滅した。一方ヴァジュラヤーナ学派は西西蔵に拡まったシャンシュンボンと印度に拡まった印度ボンがあり、そのうち、シャンシュンボンでは五派のうち、ロギュ派、チャンギュ派、メリーボンコル派が生き残り、印度ボンは、トボランパ派、クンサンアコル派、ティメランケ派、ドゥティスイチョギコル派、ポンセキュンゴツェル派、ドンティルティメトゥンシャグ派、チョ派が残った。ダルマ王の死後吐蕃王朝は崩壊し、西蔵は群小土侯の乱立となるが、やがてヴィナヤ学派の復興運動が起り、シェン派、トゥ派、シュ派、パ派、メ派の五学派が成立してくる。こうした復興運動によりボン教は十三世紀から十六世紀にかけて最盛期を迎えたが、やがて第五世達頼喇嘛の出現により、ボン教はその弾圧を受け、勢力は著しく弱められ、中央西蔵から追われて、西西蔵、北西蔵、東西蔵の康蔵地方、西ネパール、中国四川省西部に逃れ、生き延びるために統合を繰返して現在の九流九派となってその法灯を維持しているのである。ここでは吐蕃時代を中心にボン教各派の学統を明白にしようと試みたのである。
