コルベールからジョン・ロー・システムにいたるアンシャン・レジーム期フランスの財政・金融ならびに国民経済の動向を数量的研究にもとづいて、マクロ動態的に把握しようとするのが本研究の目的である。本研究の担当者は、すでに、コルベール期の経済政策と経済変動、17世紀後半の貸幣政策と経済変動、ルイ14世末期の財政・金融危機とデマレ財務総監の経済政策、リヨン金融恐慌(1709年)ノアーユ期の財政再建と金融情勢について分析を行ってきたが、昭和61-62年度は、とくに、ジョン・ロー・シスラム期と同期のフランススの経済発展に焦点をあてて研究を進めた。近代フランスの最も重要な金融事件のひとつとされるジョン・ロー・システムの展開と坐析は、熱狂的な株式投機や異常なほどの銀行券発行、膨大な額にのぼる累積国家債務償還策の推進等、その虚栄的特徴によってよく知られているが、しかし、シュムペーターが金融の思惑師と称しつつも、その反面で、管理通貨思想の祖先として高く評価したジョン・ローの実施した多様な金融・経済政策は、それが実際にどのような意義と実効性を有したのかという点を含めて、われわれの関心をつよく引きつけるものである。本研究では、ジョン・ロー・システム下の経済政策の諸相や局面の展開過程の分析を試み、銀行券の市場価格と流通正貨量とその相場とのあいだの相関関係をあきらかにすることができた。また、これらの分析をつうじて、この時代フランス経済におけるジョン・ロー・システムの意義、ジョン・ローの経済理念(信用創造や成長通貨供拾)の近代的性格をあきらかにしようと努力した。なお、本研究の推進にあたっては、文献・資料の収集に関して、パリ第4大学ジャン・クロード・ペロー教授および社会科学高等研究院ピエール・ジャナン教授の協力をえることができた。(注:当初の研究分担者佐村明知が外国出張のため、廣田誠に交代した。)
