日本海溝をはさんで堆積環境の異なる二本のドリル・コア,site435と436について計93個の試料のRb,Sr含有量およびSr同位体比を測定し、以下の結果を得た。1.Rb,Sr含有量およびSr同位体比の変化は、生物源シリカ、陸源砕屑物質(日本列島から供給された砕屑物)、遠洋性堆積物の三者の混合によって説明できる。2.遠洋性堆積物のSr同位体比は従来考えられていたように海水と平衡にあるのではなく、はるかに高い値を持つ。すなわちこれは偏西風によって中国の内陸乾燥地帯から運ばれた風成堆積物である可能性がある。3.海溝の大洋側の隆起帯でのコアであるsite436では層序変化が著しい。更新世の堆積物のRb/Sr比,Sr同位体比は海溝陸側斜面上の堆積物であるsite435と同じ値を持つが、堆積時代が古くなるにつれてRb/Sr比,Sr同位体比共に高くなる。これは現在は日本海溝のすぐ近くの大洋側に位置しているsite436の堆積物は15Ma以前にはずっと日本列島から離れた位置にあり、その堆積物はほぼ遠洋性堆積物のみからなっていたのが、プレートの動きによってしだいに日本列島に近づき、それからの物質の供給が増加していったことを示している。以上の結果の一部は1986年7月ケンブリッジ大学で開催された第6回地質年代学・宇宙年代学・同位体地質学の国際会議で発表し、さらにデータを加えて1987年4月の日本地質学会で発表の予定である。また標記の問題に関連して、室戸岬ハンレイ岩に伴う文象斑岩の黒雲母のRb-Sr年令を測定し、それが迸入した中新世の海溝充填堆積物と考えられる室戸岬オリストストロームとの時代的関係とその堆積場を議論した。その結果は1987年3月、九州大学理学部研究報告に発表する。

The Rb, Sr content and Sr isotope ratio of 93 samples collected from Japan trench were determined. The following results were obtained. 1. The variation of Rb, Sr content and Sr isotope ratio is explained by the mixture of biogenic, terrestrial and pelagic deposits. 2. Sr isotope ratio of pelagic deposits is higher than that of seawater. There is a possibility that wind-formed deposits may be transported in the dry inland areas of China against the westerly wind. 3. The oceanic uplift zone of the trench is located at site436 and the sequence is transformed. The Rb/Sr ratio and Sr isotope ratio of Pleistocene deposits are higher than those of the deposits on the continental slope of the trench. The deposit at site436 near the ocean side of the Japan Trench is located 15Ma ago near the Japanese Islands. The deposit is located in the middle of the ocean and the supply of materials near the Japanese Islands is increasing. The results were presented at the 6th International Conference on Geochronology, Cosmochronology and Isotopic Geology, held in July 1986 and published at the Geographical Society of Japan in April 1987. The relationship between the marker and the Rb-Sr age of the porphyrite is discussed. The results were published in March 1987 in a research report by the Department of Science, Kyushu University.
