THE GENES FOR PHOTOPERIODIC SENSITIVITY WERE ISOLATED BY BACKCROSSES FROM STRAINS OF WILD AND CULTIVATED RICES.1. THE LATE MATURITY OF WILD RICE AND INDICA OF CULTIVATED RICE WAS DUE TO STRONG PS.2. PLURAL GENES FOR PS WERE EACH ISOLATED FROM THOSE STRAINS OF WILD AND CULTIVATED RICE. A WEAK PS OF JAPONICA STRAIN WAS CONTROLLED BY A SET OF COMPLEMENTARY GENES. A STRONG PS OF STRAINS OF INDICA AND WILD RICE WAS CONTROLLED BY BOTH A SET OF COMPLEMENTARY GENES AND AN ADDITIONAL PS GENE.3. AT LEAST FOUR LOCI CONTROLLING PS WERE SUPPOSED JUDGING FROM ASSOCIATION BETWEEN HEADING BEHAVIOR AND ISOZYME VARIATION BY LINKAGE OF GENES FOR PS AND ISOZYMES.
