1.研究の目的、(1)、日本資本主義の新たな転換期といわれる現役階において、旧産炭地住民の生活様式はどう変化したか。(2)、住民の生活に根ざす「新しい生活様式」への模索と地域社会発展の可能性。2.旧炭鉱労働者の生活の変化とその分類。(1)、他出転職型。比較的早い時期に転職、生活は大きな変化を受けたと考えられるが、追跡調査は不能。(2)、安定定住型。小竹町または周辺町村出身者が多く、多くは旧職員層、閉山後も関連企業に再就職または転職、生活は安定しており生活様式は伝統的。(3)、停留転職型。小竹町または周辺地域に停留転職。(4)、滞留沈澱型。転職の桟会にも条件にも恵まれず、賃貸炭住に滞留し、当面は失業保険や失対事業などに依存し、地域貧困層として沈澱している。3.旧炭鉱労働者の生活様式の変化とその可能性。閉山による炭住の喪失は労働者の生活基盤を大きく変化させた。(1)、生活の物的基盤の変化。炭住から改良住宅へ、家庭電化、自家用車保有などによって、生活の「都市化」「現代化」が進行してるいる。(2)、家族関係、親族関係はあまり変化が見られない。しかし、近隣関係その他社会的結合形態には大きな変化が見られる。炭住の「生活共同体」は、炭住の消失とともに崩壊した。(3)、生活意識、生活信条は、上記の類型によって異る。4.新しい知見と今後の課題。(1)、地域社会の変化と住宅の近代化によって、生活様式は都市的生活様式になった。(2)、それはまた、労働者の社会的結合形態と生活意識にも変化が起った。(3)、小竹町の社会構造、政治構造に新たな変化の要因をもたらしたのは、旧労組時代の連帯意識の強固な残存と企業による支配と規制から解放された政治意識と投票行動の変化であった。「新しい生活様式」の可能性は今後の課題である。
