私たちのまわりから, 急速に自然が姿を消しつつあり, 自然環境保全がさけばれている. このような時代にあって, 本研究は, 子どもたちに自然に触れる体験を豊かにし, 自然に触れる楽しさを知らせるとともに, 自然を認識させる教育のあり方を探ぐることによって, 幼少一貫した望ましい自然教育のシステムを開発しようとするものである. その目的を達成するために, 本年度は次のような研究を行い, 有効な結果が得られた.(1)現行の自然教育実践の調査 月から, 月にかけて, 各地域の幼稚園, 小学校を訪問し, そこでの教育実践を見学するとともに, 関係教員の話を聞き, 資料の提供を受けるなどの方法で現行の自然教育の実体を調査した. その結果, とりわけ幼稚園においては, 実践の内容・方法及び考え方に大きな差異があることが明らかになった. さらに, 園・校内に可能な限り豊かな自然環境を造る努力をしているが地域の自然を有効に利用することに困難を感じている様子が明らかになった.(2)現職教育及び教員養成大学の学生の自然に対する意識・認識調査と各地域の幼児を対象にした自然認識についての調査 比較的自然の豊かな地域に育った人でも自然に対する意識・認識が高いとはいえず, 自然が身近にあるだけでは意識・認識の向上に必ずしも結びつかないという結果を得た. さらに, 様々な自然環境にある幼児を対象に, 自然認識についての聞き取り調査を継続して実施中であり, 順次分析中である.(3)子どもの自然認識のための観察における, 観点の設定に関する調査 子どもが自然の事物・現象を観察し, それを認識するためには, 観察の観点を明確に設定することが大切である. 観点を設定させる一つの方法は, 観察の前に描画を行わせることであり, それによって観察による認識が有効に行れることが明らかになった.
