位相空間論は位相空間および位相空間の間の連続写像の研究を目的とする. 本研究の目的である連続に近い写像の研究および層型空間の研究もこれとの関連で行なわれたものである.1.坂井[1]は連続に近い写像のうちのある種のもの, すなわちθ-連続, 弱連続, 殆連続, δ-連続, 強θ-連続, 超連続, 準連続等の写像の各特性化定理はすべて統一化された方法で証明できることを示した. 同時に開写像に近い写像, すなわち殆開, δ-開, 弱開, 準開等の写像の特性化定理も統一的方法で証明しうることも示した. また弱連続写像と準弱連続(semi-weakly continuous)写像は全く同じ型の特性化定理を持つことも示した.2.玉野は[2]および鈴木, 田中両氏との共著[3]で距離関数の一般化である零化作用素によって層型空間, κ-距離化可能空間等を特徴ずけうること, および層型でκ-距離化可能であるが, 距離化可能でない空間が存在することを示した.3.根来は[4]で一意に解が定まる確率微分方程式に対し異なる2つの初期値から得られる解曲線が交わらない確率が1となる十分条件を求めた. またマルコフ過程から生成作用素を対応させうることは一般に知られているが, [5]で2回, 1回, 0回微分した項と積分で与えられる項とから成る生成作用素すなわちレブィ作用素からマルコフ過程を構成しうることおよびその一意性を示した.
