岡山県棚原から兵庫県上月地域の舞鶴帯・超丹波帯のペルム系と夜久野オフィオライトについて各専門分野から検討をおこなった。この研究には日本学術振興会の短期招へいによりニュージーランドオタゴ大学のC.LANDISも参加し、ニュージーランド島孤との比較研究をおこない、成果を得た。当地域の層序・構造については夜久野岩類はペルム系に衝上していること、ペルム系の放散虫化石による時代の確定、夜久野オフィオライト起源の角礫岩の認定から初期島孤の復元、ペルム系に挾有される酸性火砕岩の検討から島弧の火山活動などを明らかにし、ペルム紀島孤の復元モデルを提出した。あわせてDun Mountain Ophioliteとの比較をおこなった。これらの成果をまとめて発表した(論文(1))。1987.8の太平洋学術学議(ソウル)にて報告をおこなった。また国際会議(オーストラリア)では西南日本内帯の構造についてテレーン解析の立場から総括し、論文として公表した(論文(3))。酸性火砕岩については舞鶴帯および超丹波帯において兵庫県上月、岡山県棚原、山口県錦町地域を代表例として詳細な記載をおこなって公表した(論文(4))。これらの地域においてはいずれも放散虫化石によりペルム紀中世に火山活動があったことが明らかなものである。酸性火山活動については岡山県井原地域と金川地域において生層序とともにそれらの存在が新たに明らかになったので公表した(論文(5))。これらの地域では酸性火山岩溶岩とそれに伴う脈岩が発見され、現地性の島孤活動の存在が明らかになった。舞鶴帯には夜久野オフィオライトを伴うのが特徴とされこれらは海洋地殼の一部とみなされている。上記の酸性火砕岩や溶岩は当時の島孤活動を示すものであり、両者が密接に伴っていることからペルム紀の島孤ー海溝のテクトニクスが明らかとなる。ニュージーランドにおいても同様で、今後の両者の比較検討が次の課題である。
