昭和63(1988)年10月3日から13日まで、第五回日仏(日本・フランス)学術シンポジウムが開かれ、そこに東洋学諸分野の研究者が参加した。これはパリでの第四回会議の継続であるので、その第四回に参加した日本人学者が中心になって、「漢字文化圏における中国哲学の展開」をテーマとする研究部会を設立することにしたのである。東洋学諸分野の研究者が参加して来たので、このテーマ以外のテーマで他の部会を設立した人々もあり、延べ三百名以上の参加者になった。この学術シンポジウム開催の為の研究会と準備とが、本研究組織の目的である。先ず、研究会兼開催打ち合わせ会は、研究分担者が集まり、各自の研究分野に隨って提言した。即ち、研究分担者の楠山は司会者でありつつ、日本上代思想に対する中国哲学の影響について述べたわけである。研究分担者は各論において、(別紙の如き)役割分担で進行した。打ち合わせとしては、フランス側研究者が日本に到着した時から帰国するまでの詳細な日程表を作製する仕事にかかったが、他のテーマでの研究班との日程の調整に苦心し、幾度も変更を重ねた。準備の具体的作業としては、長崎へ7月24〜27日と8月22〜25日との間に研究分担者2名が訪れた。長崎には、明代以降の日本・中国の交流を示す寺院、遺跡が多く残っているので、シンポジウム開催後にフランス人学者を案内し、現地で討論会を開く為であった。長崎では孔子廟や中国系の崇福寺、興福寺は勿論のこと、気付かれず放置されている遺跡も発見できた。そこで長崎市の教育委員会とも連絡をとり、「長崎おくんち」見学の措置をとり長崎華僑の方々の協力も得ることになった。ところが、昭和天皇御不例により、長崎は「おくんち」は勿論、全ての祭礼を中止した為、我々も計画を全て破棄せざるを得なかった。しかし準備の段階での収獲はシンポジウム中に披露され、大いに有益であった。
