本研究は、仏教図像の百科全書とも言うべき覚禅抄の成立に関して、その撰述に際して、特に重要と考えられる勧修寺系図像集の引用関係を明らかにすることにあった。引用関係が明らかになれば、覚禅の時代をのぼって、図像の年代を設定することができ、その結果、図像の宝庫である覚禅抄は、仏教美術史においてさらに活用できる資料となる。以下の要領で作業を進めて来た。1.前年度に引き続いて、写本撮影のための調査出張した。2.リ-ダ-・プリンタ-によって、収集した資料の解読と焼き付けを行った。3.覚禅抄本文と図像との引用関係の摘出を一部試みることができ、引用関係表を十一面観音と不空羂索の巻について作成した。4.引用テキストと覚禅抄との構成移動表を十一面観音と不空羂索の巻について作成した。5.また、備品の書籍として、図像関係とりわけ寺院所蔵の写本聖教の目録類を整備したので、これらの目録によって、写本の系統を探索した。その結果、活字として公刊されている覚禅抄とは写本系統を異にするものもあり、大正新修大蔵経の図像部には掲載されていない図像もあったが、基本的には、寛信と興然のものが、そのほとんどであった。6.以上の作業から覚禅抄成立における勧修寺系図像集の位置を考察し、得られた成果を、デ-タを中心に報告書として編集し、本研究を終了させることになった。なお、以上の作業には、膨大な資料を整理することが常に伴われるので、テキスト本文の比較、大量の図像の整理に、謝金によってイメ-ジ・スキャナによる画像の処理を伴うコンピュ-タ-利用し、図像のデ-タ・ベ-スとなっているので、今後の研究に有用なものとなった。
