项目摘要

二年間にわたる当研究の最初の目的は、まず各地の美術館、寺社、旧家等に伝わるさまざまな古筆手鑑の内容について、そこに貼られている古筆切がどういう作品の切であるか、一葉一葉を丹念に調査研究し、いわば戸籍台帳的に、その結果をすべてコンピュ-タにインプットすることにあった。伝称筆者名、切名、作品名等……。そうすると例えばある古筆切を調べたい場合に、筆者名なり作品名なり、何かひとつでも手がかりがあれば、関連する切はどの手鑑に収められているか、たちどころにその所在が知れることになる。国文学における文献学的研究の分野で、最近では古筆資料の持つ意味が誰からも認識されている。ただし美術品として非常に高価、かつ貴重なものであるだけに、誰にでも容易に利用できるという状況に残念ながら従来はなっていなかった。現在刊行中の『古筆手鑑大成』はそうした不備を補うものだし、当研究はきわめて基礎的なものだが、その前段階のものとして大いに意味があると思われる。『古筆手鑑大成』所収の切も既刊のものはすべてインプットし、当研究で対象とした手鑑もほぼ完了した。別項の研究発表欄にも記したとおり、当研究の成果は目下「和歌史研究会会報」に「未刊手鑑『古筆切一覧』稿」として連載中である。『古筆手鑑大成』と『徳川黎明会叢書』の古筆手鑑編もつづいて刊行している。新しく発見された古筆切を中心にまとめた「京極関白師実とその和歌活動」という論文も、すでに校正が終わり、近々発表予定である。古筆資料が自由に検索でき、利用できるようになれば、さらに研究が進むことは間違いないだろう。現存の手鑑、ないしは現存すると思われる手鑑はまだまだ数多くあるに違いないが、これで一応の基盤はできた。今後はいかに多くの資料が追加できるかが問題になってくるはずである。
