S.Oshanineは楕円種数を定義して、射影空間束のクラスが作る有向同境環のイデアルを消滅させるという性質によっての特徴付けを与えたが、報告者は向き付けのない同境環における楕円種数を定義して、それが同様のイデアルの消滅性によって特徴付けられる事を証明し、1990年8月の国際数学者会議の自由講演において発表した。さらに、この射影空間のクラスが作るイデアルを具体的な生成元系によって記述する問題については、Oshanineの場合とは異なり、向き付がないと楕円種数だけでは決定不可能なことが分かったので、楕円種数の概念を拡張する「擬楕円種数」を定義し、それによって射影空間束イデアルの決定問題を前進させた。これについては、現在、論文原稿をまとめているところである。しかし、実は簡単な理由から、乗法的な特性類である種数の計算だけでは、この問題を完全に解決することが出来ないことが分かったので、Oshanineとは完全に異なる方法を開発する必要が生じている。また、Oshanine達がS^1ー作用に関する同変種数について考察したことのアナロジ-として、向き付の無い同境環については、Z_2ー作用に関する同変種数について考察するように、大学院生の内海政幸氏に指導したところ、同氏は、上述の私の結果を利用して、Z_2ー同変種数が常に定数になるのは楕円種数に限ることを証明した。
