A practical earthquake damage evaluation method for multistory shear-type buildings with eccentricity is introduced based on linear and nonlinear dynamic analyses using one-and two-story building models simultaneously subjected to strong earthquake ground motions in the x-and y-directions. Damage concentration is evaluated considering shear and torsional strength capacity and the corresponding shear force and torsional moment acting in each direction of each story in the building. Nonlinear response analyses of one-story systems with plan asymmetry and varying parameters such as uncoupled lateral period, eccentricity ratio, uncoupled frequency ratio and force deformation characteristics of lateral force resisting elements are carried out and compared with those of corresponding one-story symmetrical systems. Nonlinear responses of two-story asymmetrical building models are also compared with corresponding two-story symmetrical models considering damage concentration.
