Statistical methods have been elaborated and expanded to be applicable to various scientific fields from social and human sciences to natural and medical sciences and technology. The expansion of scope and methods are accompanied with computational technology and information science.Our research project aims to survey the development and past achievements in the fields of statistical methods and their applications in recent years. The survey was carried out in two stages; firstly, selecting topics and secondly, surveying on each topics. During these procedures, several symposia and conferences were held. Topics covers from theoretical aspects such as estimation, time-series, multivariate and to field aspects sociology,economics, biology, earth science along with computational statistics.Bio-bibliographical approach was also used to supplement literature survey by the information specialists.The results of the projects were reported at various symposia and printed in two issues of Journal of Japan Statistical Society.

统计方法得到了详细的阐述和扩展，适用于从社会科学和人文科学到自然科学和医学科学及技术的各个科学领域。随着计算技术和信息科学的发展，统计方法的范围和方法也在不断扩大。本研究旨在综述近年来统计方法及其应用领域的发展和成就。调查分两个阶段进行;第一阶段是选择专题，第二阶段是对每个专题进行调查。在这些程序期间，举行了几次专题讨论会和会议。课题涵盖了估计、时间序列、多元等理论领域，以及社会学、经济学、生物学、地球科学等领域，沿着计算统计学。此外，信息专家还利用生物文献学方法补充文献调查。课题结果在各种研讨会上进行了报告，并刊登在两期《日本统计学会会刊》上。
