モモの交配系統‘02'の同一樹上の短果枝(10cm)、中果枝(30cm)、長果枝(80cm)及び徒長枝(副梢を含めて200cm)を供試し、これらの枝における結実性を比較した。1枝当りの結実数は枝の長さの順に0.7、2.0、7.5、9.0果であったが、花蕾当りの結実数は長果枝>徒長枝>中果枝>短果枝の順となり、100花蕾当りそれぞれ約20、18、12、7果となった。節当りでは長>中=徒>短の順であったが、葉芽当りでは長>中>短≧徒、枝長当りでは長>中=短>徒の順となり、長果枝や中果枝で結実率が高く、短果枝や徒長枝で低いかった。中果枝、長果枝、徒長枝はほぼ同様の落果波相を示し、満開後40日までは比較的緩やかに落果し、約60%の結実率を示しが、その後急激に落果して56日では15〜25%となった。一方、短果枝では満開後14日から急速に落果し始め、40日では35%の結実率となり、他枝よりも速く、激しく落果した。さらに、短果枝では枝の基部、中果枝と長果枝では中央部、徒長枝では基部と副梢上の結実率が高かった。収穫果実の大きさは、中>短>長=徒の順で、長果枝や徒長枝上の果実は劣り、長果枝では果実の縦径が著しく小さかった。徒長枝では本梢上の果実が副梢上の果実よりも著しく劣り、また、成熟期直前の横径、側径の増加が劣り、縦長であった。したがって、果実の横径/縦径比は長果枝>中果枝>短果枝>徒長枝の順であった。以上のように、結実の安定性からは長果枝、中果枝が、果実肥大からは中果枝、短果枝が優れた。したがって、摘果作業やモモ果実の商品性を考慮すると、中果枝の中央部付近の花蕾を用いる栽培が適当であろうと考えられた。なお、果径の推移から判断して、中果枝、長果枝での急激な落果時期は幼胚形成期に当たるものと思われる。今後は、経時的にサンプリングした果実を用いて形態的側面から結実の安定性や果実肥大を調査する必要がある。
