The factors controlling the component ratio and the content of the sex pheromone were examined in the potato tuberworm moth, Phthorimaea operculella. This species is known to have a huge individual variation on the component ratio. On the ratio of two pheromone components, the genetical factor was thought to be a minor one because the variation of the ratio did not decrease as a continuous inbreeding was conducted. Instead, some environmental factors like rearing temperature modified the ratio. Triene % increases in higher temperature, while it decrease in lower. By the experiments following pheromone content with female age after emergence, it was clarified that the diene component was synthesized after emergence. The bio-synthetic speed of diene was controlled by ambient temperature condition, strongly. Therefore, the diene % reached to 25 ゚C level at one day later. On the other hand, the pheromone content was controlled genetically. The author could get a ''high pheromone content strain'' during continuous inbreedings.To analyze the emitted pheromone, an air-borne collection apparatus was also designed. The apparatus are still improving for more efficient collection.
